Yelapa
Yelapa is a charming fishing village with a rich history, founded about 150 years ago by four families who made their way down from the Sierra de Chacala in Jalisco. While fishing and agriculture were once the mainstay of the local economy, today, the village thrives primarily on tourism.
What makes Yelapa truly special is its unique island-like atmosphere, even though it’s not actually an island! It’s the perfect place to relax and forget your worries, surrounded by stunning natural beauty. The only easy way to get there is by boat, which adds to the adventure!
Yelapa features a long, beautiful beach and a lovely river that flows right onto the shore during the rainy season (July to November). You can even visit a fantastic waterfall either by walking or horseback riding!
Along the beach, you’ll find great restaurants with tables under umbrellas and comfy lounge chairs, perfect for soaking up the sun. Plus, there are plenty of fun activities like renting ATV’s, jet skis, kayaks, and paddle boards, or even horseback riding tours. And don’t miss out on the delicious, authentic local bread sold by beach vendors—it’s a must-try!
In addition to all this, Yelapa also boasts a variety of beachfront boutique hotels that offer luxurious accommodations combined with yoga retreats, alternative therapies, detox programs, meditation, and other holistic treatments.
Whether you’re looking to unwind, explore, or indulge in some self-care, Yelapa is a delightful spot that offers a little bit of everything!
